VocabPin (formerly Contextly) is a browser extension for collecting vocabulary while reading and reviewing words in their original context. Questions about privacy, data handling or support may be sent to the developer at:

2. Information processed and why

When you choose to save vocabulary, VocabPin stores the selected word or phrase, its language, any definition or sentence translation, a short original passage, the page title and source URL, the save date and location hints needed for the “jump to context” feature. The source URL may contain query parameters; avoid saving words from private or sensitive pages.

It also stores your interface and learning-language choices, the websites you enable, saved-word status, review goals and review progress. When you turn on saved-word recognition, VocabPin checks readable text on enabled pages against your local vocabulary to highlight matches. The extension can inspect open-tab URLs to find and reuse an already open source article when you select “jump to context.” It does not intentionally build a complete browsing-history log.

3. Where information is stored

Vocabulary, saved passages, source URLs, language settings, website preferences and review data are stored on your device in Chrome extension storage. VocabPin v0.5.7.4 does not require an account, operate a cloud-synchronization service or upload your full vocabulary library to a VocabPin-operated server.

If you choose to export CSV or JSON, the resulting file may contain saved sentences, source URLs and review information. Store or delete your exported files as you see fit. Local Chrome extension storage is not a secure vault; do not save passwords, confidential messages, medical records or banking information.

4. Website access

VocabPin requests permission for a website when you choose to enable it. On an authorized website, its content scripts can read and process page text to support word selection, source-sentence extraction, saved-word recognition and return-to-source positioning. This processing occurs in your browser unless you separately use optional online translation as described below.

You can disable a website inside VocabPin or revoke its permission through Chrome extension settings. Revoking access prevents further use on that site; reload an already open page if its existing highlights do not disappear immediately.

5. Optional translation and third parties

Where supported, VocabPin first tries Chrome’s on-device Translator API. Chrome may download language models to provide this feature. VocabPin does not operate Chrome’s model service.

Online translation is off by default. If you turn it on and the on-device option is unavailable or fails, VocabPin can request translation from MyMemory (Translated) over HTTPS. The extension sends the selected word or phrase and language codes; it may also send a separate request containing up to 500 characters of the saved source sentence. The text is included in an HTTPS GET request URL. The extension does not intentionally send the source page URL, whole article, complete vocabulary library or review history to MyMemory. The third-party service and network providers may process submitted text and technical request data, such as IP address, under their own terms and privacy practices. VocabPin does not control their retention practices.

Do not enable online translation for sensitive or confidential material. You can disable online translation in Settings at any time and enter definitions manually. VocabPin v0.5.7.4 has no embedded advertising or analytics service and does not sell vocabulary data.

6. Your choices, deletion and retention

You can edit or delete saved words in VocabPin, change language settings, disable saved-word recognition, revoke website access, turn off online translation, and export your vocabulary to CSV or a JSON backup. You can import a compatible JSON backup into another installation of the extension.

Local data remains on your device until you delete it, clear the extension’s data or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling the extension or clearing its storage can permanently remove locally stored vocabulary and review data. Previously exported files remain wherever you saved them; VocabPin cannot remotely delete those files. VocabPin does not hold a separate account-based copy to restore your data.

7. Changes to this policy

If VocabPin changes how it processes user data, this policy will be updated and the updated version will be dated. Any material changes to data practices will be disclosed in the extension or its store listing as appropriate.

8. Limited-use disclosure

Information accessed through Chrome APIs is used only to provide or improve VocabPin’s user-facing vocabulary collection, contextual reading and review features. VocabPin’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

插件还会保存界面与语言偏好、你启用的网站、词条学习状态、每日复习目标和复习进度。当你开启「旧词识别」时，插件会将已授权网页中的可读文字与本地词库进行匹配，并标记已收藏词汇。当你点击「返回原文并定位」时，插件可以检查已打开标签页的网址，以便切换到原来打开的文章。插件不会有意建立完整的浏览历史记录。

3. 信息保存在哪里

词库、原文例句、来源网址、语言设置、网站偏好及学习记录保存在你设备上的 Chrome 扩展本地存储中。VocabPin v0.5.7.4 不要求注册账号，不提供云端同步，也不会将完整词库上传到 VocabPin 运营的服务器。

你主动导出 CSV 或 JSON 时，文件中可能包含原文句子、来源网址及复习信息。请自行妥善保管或删除导出文件。Chrome 本地扩展存储不是加密保险箱，请勿在插件中保存密码、私人通信、病历、银行卡信息或其他机密内容。

4. 网站访问权限

你主动选择启用某个网站时，VocabPin 才会请求相应权限。在已授权网站上，插件脚本能够读取和处理页面文字，以实现选词、提取原文例句、识别已收藏词汇和返回原文定位。除下文说明的可选在线翻译外，这些处理发生在你的浏览器中。

你可以在 VocabPin 中停用某个网站，也可以在 Chrome 扩展设置中撤销其权限。如果已打开的页面中仍保留旧标记，可刷新页面使停用生效。

5. 可选在线翻译与第三方服务

如果浏览器支持，VocabPin 会优先尝试 Chrome 设备端 Translator API。Chrome 可能需要下载对应的语言模型；VocabPin 不运营该模型服务。

在线翻译默认关闭。 只有你主动开启，并且设备端翻译不可用或失败时，VocabPin 才可能通过 HTTPS 向 MyMemory（Translated）请求翻译。插件会发送所选单词或短语及语言代码；还可能单独发送最多 500 个字符的原文句子以取得例句译文。这些文字会包含在 HTTPS GET 请求的网址参数中。插件不会有意向 MyMemory 发送来源文章的网址、整篇文章、完整词库或复习历史。第三方服务及相关网络服务提供方可能根据各自条款和隐私做法处理所提交文字和 IP 地址等技术信息；VocabPin 无法控制其数据保留方式。

请勿将机密或敏感内容用于在线翻译。你可以随时在设置中关闭在线翻译，或自行填写释义。VocabPin v0.5.7.4 不含内置广告或数据分析服务，也不出售词库数据。

6. 用户选择、删除及保存期限

你可以在 VocabPin 中编辑或删除词条、调整语言设置、关闭旧词识别、撤销网站授权、关闭在线翻译，以及导出 CSV 或 JSON 备份。兼容的 JSON 备份可以导入另一次插件安装。

本地数据会保留在设备上，直到你主动删除、清除扩展数据或卸载扩展。卸载或清除数据可能永久删除本地词库和复习进度。之前导出的备份文件仍保留在你保存它们的位置，VocabPin 无法远程删除这些文件。VocabPin 不保存额外的账号云端副本，因此不能通过账号恢复你的本地数据。

7. 政策更新

如果 VocabPin 的用户数据处理方式发生变化，本政策会更新并标注新的日期。对于重要的数据处理变化，我们也会根据情况在插件内或商店页面进行说明。

8. 有限用途声明

通过 Chrome API 访问的信息，仅用于提供和改进 VocabPin 面向用户的词汇收藏、语境阅读与复习功能。VocabPin 对通过 Google API 获得的信息的使用遵守 Chrome Web Store 用户数据政策，包括 Limited Use（有限用途）要求。
